ECY&EA owner and lead instructor, Dr. Deborah Bassett holds a PhD in communication from the University of Washington, has a research background in health and wellness and is widely published in the areas of culture, communication, and health in peer-reviewed medical journals. She is an experienced registered yoga teacher at the 500-hour level and has studied a wide range of styles and specializations over three decades with expert yoga teachers in Jerusalem, Seattle, New Orleans, Delaware, New Jersey, and Florida. 


In 2026, Dr. Bassett opened Seva Yoga School™  within Emerald Coast Yoga & Expressive Arts, providing yoga teacher training focused on service. She is the founder of Seva Yoga Alliance Inc™ , a nonprofit organization to promote the values of community, peace, and service within the yoga tradition and provide credentialing and support for teachers and schools around the world. 


Emerald Coast Yoga & Expressive Arts is located in the Historic Sacred Heart Hospital at 1010 N. 12th Ave. in the East Hill neighborhood of Pensacola, FL.

  Leslie Donovan has been teaching yoga since 2017 and is a graduate of the 200-RYT from URU. Leslie has always valued different forms of exercise and may supplement yoga with alternative practices such as Pilates, somatic movement, meditation and mindfulness during class as these tools help keep her grounded.

  Rhett began his meditation practice in a small Zen temple about 20 years ago. It didn't take him long to realize that his mind was going bananas most of the time. This realization motivated him to keep practicing in order to get to know the nature of his mind and to ultimately make it a friend. Knowing that many others experience this m

  Rhett began his meditation practice in a small Zen temple about 20 years ago. It didn't take him long to realize that his mind was going bananas most of the time. This realization motivated him to keep practicing in order to get to know the nature of his mind and to ultimately make it a friend. Knowing that many others experience this mental tug of war moved Rhett to have more compassion for our shared struggles. From this sense of a shared suffering grew his motivation to become a mindfulness teacher. Ultimately he hopes to help others in their journey to become a true friend to themselves. 

*Rhett is currently in the middle of a two-year program to become a certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher that is facilitated by the well-known authors and meditation teachers Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. The meditation tradition being taught in this program is called Insight Meditation (also known as Vipassana) and its focus is on developing a nonjudgmental awareness in relation to our present experience. Rhett's class is open to folks from all meditation traditions.

Meylin discovered yoga not only as a way to reconnect her body and mind but also as a powerful tool for her own health and healing journey. She quickly fell in love with the strength, calm, and confidence it brings. As a parent and community-lover, she’s passionate about helping children experience those same benefits in a playful, supportive environment. Teaching under the mentorship of her studio instructor, Meylin designed the Strong & Steady program to help kids grow stronger in both body and spirit. Her classes weave fun poses, balance challenges, teamwork, and simple mindfulness practices so every child leaves feeling calm, brave, and capable. Meylin balances teaching yoga with raising her kids, helping her community, and continuing her own practice as a student to become a certified yoga instructor. Meylin’s hope is that each child walks out proud, grounded, and a little more connected to their own inner strength—and that she continues to learn from the curiosity and joy they bring.

Ken began his holistic path with an interest in the body mind connection. The fulfillment of life purpose, stress release, and a quest for self-realization all played key roles in his personal search for understanding.  He began a meditation practice in 1973, which led to him to certify as a teacher, with Dr. Deepak Chopra.
Through the study of martial arts. Ken attained a fourth degree black belt from Grand Master Lawrence Day in association with Grand Master Don Madden.  He has maintained a continued practice of Tai-Chi, and Qi-gong, and has received his teaching certificate from Grand Master Lawrence Day.
The continued practices have led to Yoga, and other energy balancing techniques.  He has incorporated these into his teaching curriculum.  He continues to teach and to lecture, and facilitate workshops across the country. 

Ken holds a monthly Full Moon Yoga Nidra session, day and time announced to our email list.

“I found Dance Trance in 2019 when I saw a Facebook ad with the “Happier” routine, I grabbed a few friends and went to try it out one day after work. I smiled so much my face hurt and laughed hard at just how uncoordinated I felt and how silly I was sure I looked, but instantly knew, I would be back. Back then I never would have thought about teaching Dance Trance, I danced the back line and instantly started shaking with nerves when I knew the song was going to face the back. Throughout the years, I’ve learned it’s not about perfection, it’s about having fun and just enjoying yourself. As if I haven’t said it enough, I love dancing! And I love that I get to laugh with a group of women as we dance and forget about all the other adult things we have going on in our day-to-day lives. I’ve learned so much from the women I dance beside, from recipes, to how to deal with tough family or work situations, and even how to twerk and “floss”.
